Weekly Trading Outlook | October 19–23, 2026
A weekly look at gold, Bitcoin and key economic dates, with general guidance on risk management, trading discipline and performance review.
Plan calmly and preserve capital through disciplined execution and clear risk controls. Avoid chasing price moves or making emotional decisions.
## 1. Gold first (XAU/USD)
September US consumer prices rose 0.6% month over month and 3.7% year over year. Producer prices rose 1.3% month over month and 6.3% year over year.
These readings may continue to influence interest-rate expectations. Monitor the US dollar and Treasury yields when assessing gold, without assuming a predetermined direction.
- Define the scenario and its invalidation conditions before entering.
- Avoid chasing the first sharp move or entering late.
- Size positions according to stop distance, volatility and execution costs.
- Review overnight exposure, especially when monitoring is limited.
## 2. Bitcoin second (BTC)
Bitcoin may respond to interest-rate expectations, liquidity and the dollar while trading around the clock.
- Avoid excessive leverage during thin liquidity.
- Allow for slippage and wider spreads; a stop-loss does not guarantee its execution price.
- Review combined gold and Bitcoin exposure when both respond to the same macro driver; correlations can change.
- Do not switch markets to recover losses.
- Reduce size when overnight and weekend risks increase.
## 3. Key economic events
No releases from the four categories covered here are scheduled for October 19–23, 2026: an FOMC rate decision, the US employment report, CPI or PPI. This does not mean that all market-moving news is absent or that trading will be quiet.
Dates to plan ahead for:
- FOMC meeting: October 27–28, 2026.
- US employment report: November 6, 2026.
- CPI: November 10, 2026.
- PPI: November 13, 2026.
Schedules may be updated. Unscheduled developments and positioning ahead of the FOMC meeting can still move prices.
## 4. Prop firms and stop-loss discipline
- Define the stop-loss as part of the entry plan and follow the actual program requirements.
- Review balance, equity, daily loss limits, maximum drawdown and remaining headroom.
- Check how drawdown is calculated and when the provider resets its trading day.
- Review news, overnight, weekend and permitted-strategy rules; requirements vary by program.
- Calculate aggregate exposure when replicating an idea across multiple accounts.
- Do not keep a losing trade open merely to extend its duration.
There is no universal stop-loss deadline or single rulebook for all prop firms. The account's current terms are the reference.
## 5. Position sizing
- Set clear per-idea and daily risk limits before trading, based on account size, loss tolerance and applicable rules.
- Include correlated positions in total exposure rather than assessing each trade in isolation.
- Respect the daily limit; a new market session does not erase earlier losses in the trader's plan.
- Define a stopping rule in advance for reaching the loss limit or deteriorating execution quality.
- Avoid increasing size after a loss, revenge trading and unplanned additions.
## 6. Friday review checklist
- Did execution follow the plan and risk limits?
- Were stop-losses and account requirements respected?
- Were aggregate exposure and correlated positions considered?
- Were execution costs, slippage and overnight risks included?
- Were chasing and overtrading avoided?
- Is the journal complete with entry and exit reasons and execution screenshots?
- What were the weekly result and maximum drawdown, and what practical lesson carries into next week?
Prioritize decision quality and capital preservation. Staying out can be appropriate when the plan's conditions are absent.
